How we think about journal selection, publishing models, and responsible evaluation when supporting a manuscript toward publication.
Our role in publication
GCC Assignments supports the practical and editorial steps between a finished manuscript and a considered submission. We are not a publisher, indexing service, or journal, we do not operate or maintain a journal directory, and we have no partnership or affiliation with any publisher or journal to disclose. Any journal names discussed with you during a service are provided as general guidance, not as an endorsement or guarantee of any relationship with that journal.
How we think about journal selection
Matching a manuscript to a suitable journal is a judgment exercise, not a guarantee. We consider factors such as:
- The manuscript's subject matter and scope against a journal's stated aims and scope
- The journal's intended readership
- Author guidelines and formatting requirements
- Submission requirements, including any applicable fees
The final choice of journal, and the decision to submit, always rests with the author.
Publishing models
Journals generally publish under one of a few common models, and understanding the difference matters when choosing where to submit:
- Subscription-based - access to published articles requires a subscription or institutional license.
- Open access - published articles are freely accessible, typically funded by an article-processing charge, institutional agreement, or other funding source.
- Hybrid - a subscription journal that also offers an open-access option for individual articles.
We do not recommend one model over another in general - the right fit depends on your funding, your field's norms, and your own priorities.
Responsible journal evaluation
We encourage every author to evaluate a candidate journal independently before submitting, including checking the journal's editorial board, its stated peer-review process, its indexing status, and its publisher's standing. We do not certify or guarantee the legitimacy of any journal - that evaluation is ultimately the author's own responsibility, informed by their institution and field norms.
Ethical publication considerations
We support only ethical, transparent publication practices. We do not support or participate in:
- Fabricated, plagiarized, or otherwise manipulated research
- Fake or manipulated peer review
- Undisclosed or false authorship
- Submission to a journal without the author's full knowledge and approval
See our About page for our broader ethical publishing statement, and our Publication Support Services page for how this applies across a full submission engagement.
